MAMMALS, A VERY COMPLEX CLASS OF VERTEBRATES

Are you interested in mammals?
Here you can read a very nice article written by Elena Fillola, about the three groups of mammals.

MAMMALS IN AUSTRALIA
Australia is
the only place in the world where you can find the three types of mammals:
marsupials, monotremes and placentals.
MARSUPIALS
The most well-known marsupial is the kangaroo, but the koala is a marsupial too. When
marsupials are born, they aren’t completely formed. They climb up their
mother’s body and they arrive at the mother’s pouch. They finish their
development inside the bag.
MONOTREMES
The monotremes are very strange animals: they put an egg and they hatch it. The baby
drinks something like milk. There are only two species of monotremes, the
platypus and the equidna and both are only found in Australia. The equidna is
like a hedgehog and the platypus has a beak, a strange tail and feet like a
duck.
PLACENTALS
It’s the biggest group of mammals. They grow in the uterus and they are born completely
developed. The humans brought all the placentals to Australia. There are foxes,
rabbits, mice, dromedaries... The most special placental is the dingo, a wild
dog.
